Hopefully Dave (Pauline’s Canadian friend – we went to Devils Lake, WI to climb together this past Saturday) doesn’t mind that I use one of the pictures from his recent climbing trip… but this was too stunning to pass up without a word. Forget tiny little rock faces – this is the real thing man.
If I ever hope to do a climb like that – even just seconding and not leading – I’d better the hell get over my fear of falling. Aye.
As it turned out, I got to spend an extra evening with my dad last night. He called me at 4pm; apparently there was some technical fault with his plane, and after the mechanics tried futilely to fix the problem for 3 hours while everyone dozed off on board, they cancelled the flight. So I picked him up and we grabbed a quick dinner in Chinatown.
Later, Kaitian and Denis came over to share some wine. Lucky bugger got a gig writing wine reviews for this vineyard out in Napa, and so he gets to try a bottle every week. Man, I told him he should pull us in on the deal too – we have over 10 voices at DGS who would be more than happy to try the wines. 😉 In any case, they were pretty generous and invited me to sample more bottles should he get the gig for real (this was just the trial run). So we spent quite an enjoyable evening hunched over a delightful bottle of white Burgundy from Bourgogne. Beautiful nose, smooth texture, and a wonderfully long bittersweet finish.
Fall doesn’t really begin until you’ve had the Starbucks Pumpkin Spiced Latte. Mmm. Just as winter doesn’t really begin until you’ve had the Starbucks Gingerbread Latte. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
