What an incredible weekend out to celebrate Tracey’s upcoming nuptials!
We kicked it off with a beautiful sunset with Chicago’s skyline as a backdrop. Our captain Matt said it was the best sunset he’d seen all season. 🙂
We lost sight of the skyscrapers after 3 hours, and settled back to admire the starry night sky. As we got further from the city, the light pollution dissipated and we feasted our eyes on shooting stars and the milky way. It was indescribably beautiful and peaceful. We couldn’t have asked for better night sailing conditions! We had a steady north westerly wind so all we had to do was turn on the auto helm and set the sail to a close haul and we could settle back with some wine and snacks. I tried my best to stay up through the night, but eventually succumbed and went below deck for a bit of a shut eye.
We docked into the marina at South Haven just at sunrise on Saturday morning, and everyone claimed spots about the boat for a short nap, before rising to check out the farmers market and grab brunch.
We then spent the afternoon splashing in the lake with a frisbee, before taking the boat back out to enjoy another gorgeous sunset over a glassy lake.
Another beautiful sunrise to see us off from New Haven, and then we added some excitement to the mix by sailing through some storms.
