Mozart Concerto at the CSO

Opera season at the Lyric ended for us on Tuesday, with Renee Fleming in A Streetcar Named Desire. Almost immediately, Jeff signed us up for a subscription to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. We kicked off his season with pianist/conductor Mitsuko Uchida leading Mozart’s couple of piano concertos.

It was a masterful performance, but I confess – I found myself missing the drama and visual spectacle of opera. I wonder too, why is it that there were many more younger folks in the audience (including kids)¬†interspersed among the white-haired set at the Symphony than at the Opera? Isn’t the latter easier to understand?

Chicago Classical Review’s rave of the performance here.
