On a blustery Wednesday evening, we strolled over to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for their after-work concert series.
The highlight was 26-year-old pianist Yuja Wang performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. She was brilliant. A veritable ball of barely suppressed energy, her fingers flew over the keyboard at the climatic moments as the orchestra raced to keep pace. It was most exciting to watch!
I also really enjoyed Brett Dean’s short piece, “Ampitheatre”, as well as Carl Nielsen’s Fifth Symphony. Helped that we had awesome box seats with a prime view of the stage, the better to enjoy the action up close!
