Springtime in Chicago

As summer solstice draws nearer, the sun rises ever earlier. This morning, we dragged ourselves out of bed at 4am just so we could be on our bikes to the lake at 430am. Although the sun rises at 520am, the most magical colors are in the 50 minutes or so before, when the skies are a riot of magenta, orange, and indigo.

Joe rode with us today, via Divvy, which was neat since he didn’t have to pay very much to rent a bike, and although he had to check in his bike at a Divvy station every half hour, there were plenty of those along the lake path and around the city.

This being the Sunday before Memorial Day, Lake Shore Drive was shut down from 5am-11am for the annual bike the drive. We were a little too cheap to sign up for the race, and so contended to do our little bike ride around the city. It was very peaceful being on the roads at that hour.
